Mimal finalist in Territory NRM awards
Mimal Land Management is thrilled to announce it’s a finalist for a Northern Territory Natural Resource Management award.
Mimal has been nominated in the Indigenous Natural Resource Management category, alongside the Li-Anthawirriyarra Sea Rangers and Tjuwanpa Women Rangers.
In its comments, the independent judging panel said Mimal was nominated for its ever expanding capacity and delivery of projects addressing issues such as gamba grass, protection of cultural places and endangered species, and inter-generational knowledge transfer.
The judges noted that since the recent transfer of responsibility of the Mimal Rangers to local Aboriginal control, Mimal has broadened its funding sources and vastly expanded capacity.
It is now the biggest employer of Indigenous people in the Bulman Weemol area. And a 10-year Healthy Country Plan, developed through community consultations, drives 55 strategies.
Mimal is also in the running for the People’s Choice Award.
Each of the finalists have been entered into this award and it is up to the public to decide who wins.

The winners will be announced at the NT NRM Award Gala Dinner at the Darwin Convention Centre on 14 November, which is held during the annual Territory Natural Resource Management Conference.
The Territory NRM conference runs from November 13-15 and brings together land, water and fire managers from the Top End through to Central Australia.
